With just a few weeks to go until Ninja Gaiden 4 launches, Microsoft has introduced new themed controllers to celebrate the upcoming action-adventure game. For some reason, they’re only being released through the Xbox Design Lab platform, which means they won’t be available at retailers and will cost a bit more than past themed controllers like the DOOM: The Dark Ages edition.
That said, buyers can pick between the standard Xbox Wireless Controller and the Elite Series 2 in Design Lab. Both feature a striking paint job inspired by Ninja Gaiden 4's characters, with the top case showing protagonist Yakumo’s Oni mask and his blue handled katana on the left grip. The right grip, meanwhile, is dominated by Ryu Hayabusa’s red dragon sword.
The best part about Xbox Design Lab is that buyers can customize their controllers with extra options like metallic triggers, custom D-pads, or matching colors for the buttons and sticks, though it comes with an extra cost. Microsoft also offers other themed designs inspired by popular games like The Witcher 3, the above-mentioned DOOM: The Dark Ages, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and more.
Aside from the new striking designs, the rest of the functionality and features remain similar to the typical Xbox controllers, with full compatibility for Xbox Series X|S consoles and PCs. The Elite Series 2 version adds its usual pro features like trigger locks, adjustable stick tension, and extra back buttons.
Both Ninja Gaiden 4 controllers are available starting today. The Ninja Gaiden 4 Xbox Wireless Controller starts at $94.98, about $14.99 more than other recent special editions, such as the Breaker series, while the Elite Series 2 version comes in at $184.98. Ninja Gaiden 4 itself is scheduled to launch on October 21, with preorders already open on the Xbox Store.
