The Xiaomi Digital Walkie-Talkie has been launched in China. The portable gadget’s digital format, using the FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access) method, is said to enhance call clarity for an HD intercom experience.
According to the product listing, the 4W Digital Walkie-Talkie can be used over distances up to 5 km (~3.1 miles) outdoors, or in an area measuring up to 10,000 m² (~107,650 ft²), like a shopping mall. It operates on an ultra-narrowband 6.25 kHz bandwidth and does not require a radio frequency license in China.
Xiaomi’s Digital Walkie-Talkie has a 1.57-inch color screen with a 320 x 200 px resolution and button controls. The display can show contact information and settings, and you can also manage the device through the Xiaomi Intercom app. Plus, in the app, users can view the relative position of the other party. Users can connect headphones over Bluetooth, and there is an integrated 36 mm speaker.
Powered by a 2,500 mAh battery, the Xiaoim walkie-talkie should run for up to 100 hours in standby mode or for 14 hours with continuous use. It recharges via USB-C and can be used while charging. This IP54 rated dust and water resistant device measures 171 x 55 x 24 mm (~6.7 x 2.2 x 0.9 inches) and weighs 147 g (~5.2 oz). In China, the Xiaomi Digital Walkie-Talkie retails for CNY 349 (~$49).
