Xiaomi has updated its flagship smartphone series today with the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Pro. On the face of it, the pair directly replace last year's Xiaomi 15 Pro and the smaller Xiaomi 15 (curr. $890 on Amazon). However, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is actually the direct replacement for the Xiaomi 15 Pro, with the Xiaomi 17 Pro taking the shape of an iPhone 17 Pro rival instead.
Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max competes with the Galaxy S25 Ultra and iPhone 17 Pro Max. To that end, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max measures 162.9 x 77.6 x 8 mm and weighs 219 g. Slightly taller and wider than the Xiaomi 15 Pro, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is a hair thinner but with the same 6.9-inch panel size as the iPhone 17 Pro Max. According to Xiaomi, this new LTPO AMOLED panel outputs at 2,608 x 1,200 pixels with the same 120 Hz refresh rate and 3,500 nits peak brightness as the rest of the Xiaomi 17 series.
Moreover, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max features a secondary display that spans 2.9-inches diagonally with a 976 x 596-pixel resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate and 3,500 nits peak brightness. Likewise, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max pushes the envelope even further than its siblings when it comes to battery technology though, with a 7,500 mAh capacity supported by 100 W wired and 50 W wireless charging.
Additionally, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max finds itself with four 50 MP cameras, including the same Hunter 950L primary sensor as the Xiaomi 17 Pro. Similarly, the Pro Max has a 50 MP and 5x telephoto camera like its Pro sibling. The 1/2-inch sensor surpasses the equivalent in the Pro with an f/2.6 aperture and a 30 cm macro focus mode, though. As far as we can tell, the 102° ultra-wide-angle and 90° front-facing cameras are the same as those Xiaomi includes in the Xiaomi 17 Pro.
Unsurprisingly, Xiaomi complements all this hardware with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and up to 16 GB of RAM. The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max starts at CNY 5,999 (~$842) with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. Alternatively, the handset can be configured with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB or 1 TB of storage for CNY 6,299 (~$884) and CNY 6,999 (~$982), respectively. Xiaomi has not indicated whether the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max will be making an appearance outside China yet, though.
