Montblanc has added a digital E Ink notebook to its portfolio. The luxury pen maker's Digital Paper has a large monochrome display, 64GB of storage, and comes with a rechargeable stylus designed like its popular pens. However, it costs significantly more than its rivals.

Montblanc, the brand known for its luxury pens and smartwatches, among other products, has announced its first e-ink notebook. Called the Montblanc Digital Paper, the device arrives as a rival to the reMarkable Paper Pro and the Kindle Scribe.

According to Montblanc, the Digital Paper is “designed for those who value the quiet clarity of handwriting”. The device, made of aluminum, features a design similar to the Kindle Scribe. Montblanc gives its weight as 473 grams and its dimensions as 190 × 220 × 15 mm. While it is lighter than the reMarkable Paper Pro and heavier than the Kindle Scribe, it is significantly thicker than both, which are 5.1 mm and 5.7 mm thick, respectively.

Nevertheless, the Montblanc Digital Paper features moderately uniform bezels on three of its sides, with the fourth being thicker, making it easier to hold. This thicker side has a magnetic recess that holds the included stylus when not in use. Montblanc has only revealed a few technical details, which sadly don't include the display size. However, based on the dimensions, it can't be less than 10 inches.

The Digital Paper has a black and white E Ink display, and according to Good e-Reader, the display is covered with glass. The spec sheet says it has 64GB of storage, but doesn't mention the RAM. It also has dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.4, which Montblanc specifically says is for connecting to the included stylus called the Digital Pen.

The Digital Pen has a design similar to one of Montblanc's pens. Weighing 17 grams, it has 4,000 levels of pressure sensitivity, interchangeable and replaceable tips, and wireless charging. The Digital Pen also has two configurable buttons on the side and one configurable button at the top. There's no info on its battery life. The Digital Paper, on the other hand, has a 3,740mAh battery, which is smaller than the reMarkable Paper Pro's 5,030mAh battery.

The Montblanc Digital Paper is available in three colors with matching styluses.

The Montblanc Digital Paper can be used to take notes, annotate documents, and sketch. Users will be able to share files via email, Bluetooth, and USB-C. It is also reported to have support for Montblanc's companion cloud apps. There is no mention of the operating system that powers it.

The Montblanc Digital Paper costs $905, which is more than double the launch price of the Kindle Scribe (curr. available on Amazon for $305.99). Montblanc's e-ink notebook is available in Cool Grey, Elixir Gold, and Mystery Black, all of which come with a matching Montblanc Digital Pen.

The stylus, which costs $275 if you wish to purchase a replacement, comes with a linen tip attached and two extra tips (smooth and matte) included in the box. There's also a USB-C cable, but no charger in the box. Montblanc also sells a magnetic folio case for $205 and a pack of 8 replaceable pen tips for $40.
