Someone turned a reMarkable tablet into Tom Riddle's diary

A developer has turned their reMarkable Paper Pro into a working recreation of Tom Riddle’s diary from the Harry Potter series. Featuring handwriting that fades from the pages and an AI system that will write back, this project (built by developer Maxime Rivest) mimics some of the core tricks used in the Harry Potter book series.
When a user writes their message, the words visually disappear from the page, just as they did when Harry Potter first wrote in Tom Riddle’s diary in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Then shortly thereafter, a reply is shown on the page written in handwriting that resembles Riddle’s style.
This time, though, the replies are generated by an AI model, which creates a back-and-forth conversation instead of a static response. There are no keyboards, chat bubbles, or glowing screens. Instead, users interact with the AI by writing on the tablet.
To do this, Maxime used the reMarkable Paper Pro’s software development kit. This lets developers create apps that can be executed straight on the device. To pull off the disappearing ink visual, he captured the user input, then cleared it from the screen before rendering his AI-generated response using a handwriting-style font.
The build has circulated widely among reMarkable owners and Harry Potter fans since it was shared online, with many pointing to it as one of the more creative uses of the tablet's e-ink and stylus capabilities to date. The reMarkable Paper Pro is primarily marketed as a note-taking and e-reading device, not a platform for interactive fiction, which is part of what has made the project stand out.
The project remains a personal build rather than an official release, and there is no indication that reMarkable had any involvement in its development.
