Amazon refreshes the Kindle Scribe: New color, new pen, and AI features

Alongside the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, Amazon has also announced a refreshed Kindle Scribe. Amazon lists it as the 'Kindle Scribe with redesigned display' and also refers to it as the 'Kindle Scribe 1st generation- 2024 release'. This means it technically isn't a successor, but the same device with a new design and new software features.

The new Kindle Scribe has been redesigned, switching the borders around the screen from black to white, which when looked at from certain angles, gives off the feeling that the display stretches from edge to edge. It also makes the left side bezel appear slimmer. The display is still 10.2'' in size and has a 300 ppi resolution.

Amazon has added a handful of new features too such as AI notebook tools which can refine texts, summarize notes, and convert handwritten notes into a script font. Another feature is Active Canvas which allows users to write directly on book pages. The neat part of the feature is that it wraps the text around the note you have written.

The Premium Pen has also been redesigned. It has a customizable shortcut button and a soft-tip eraser. It also attaches magnetically to the right side of the Kindle Scribe. Amazon will also offer replacement pen tips along with cases for the Kindle Scribe.

The 2024 Kindle Scribe is available in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB storage variants. It still doesn't have Wi-Fi 6, but it now ships with the Premium Pen stylus. It also still maxes out at 9W charging via USB-C. The Kindle Scribe is available in Tungsten (gray) and a new green color way called Metallic Jade with a matching stylus.

It starts at $399.99, making it more expensive than the 2022 model which had a starting price of $339.99 and is still available for purchase. The new Kindle Scribe is available to order now but won't be released until December 4.
