Amazon launches Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition as its first color screen eReader
Amazon has finally announced a line of new Kindle devices, and among them is the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, its very first eReader with a color screen. With the Kindle Colorsoft, Amazon joins the long list of manufacturers that offer e-readers with a color screen such as Onyx with its BOOX Go Color 7 (available on Amazon for $250) and Rakuten's Kobo Libra Color.

The new Kindle Colorsoft looks like a Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition with a color screen. Amazon says the display provides a paper-like color experience. It also uses a combination of nitride LEDs and custom algorithms for its new light guide which results in color enhancements and increased brightness without losing detail. Users will also be able to choose between standard and vibrant color styles.
The technical details of the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition are currently unknown as Amazon seems to have pulled the listing down. Even the official announcement has been pulled down but was thankfully archived. Nevertheless, the Kindle Colorsoft will have up to 8 weeks of battery life and support for wireless charging. It is also waterproof, allowing you to use it in the bath, at the beach, or in the pool.
The Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition is priced at $279.99 and will begin shipping on October 30. At that price, it costs significantly more than the Kobo Libra 7 (available on Amazon for $220) which has a 7'' color screen, 32GB of storage, physical page turn buttons, stylus support (stylus sold separately), and an IPX8 waterproof rating.
