The BOOX Palma 2 is a moderate refresh over its predecessor with a few new additions such as updated software and improved security. It still retains the phone-like design which makes it great for one-hand use and also allows it to easily fit in a pocket.

More than a year ago, Onyx launched the BOOX Palma, an Android-powered e-reader with a form factor similar to a smartphone which makes it easier to slip in your pocket. Now it is following it up with the BOOX Palma 2 which keeps the beloved form factor but comes with some improvements.

The BOOX Palma 2 doesn't look too different from the previous generation. It is still available in Ivory White and Deep Cyan Black, both with a rock-like texture on the back. However, a small difference is that the light sensor seems to be slightly bigger on the Palma 2.

The eReader retains the 6.13-inch display of the original Palma. Thanks to its aspect ratio and phone-like form factor, it is more comfortable to hold than the BOOX Go 6. The display has a front light with adjustable color temperature.

The display isn't the only thing Onyx hasn't changed. The BOOX Palma 2 is still powered by a Qualcomm chipset paired with BOOX Super Refresh technology. It also has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. The 16MP rear camera for scanning documents hasn't chnaged while the battery capacity is still 3,950mAh. There's no Wi-Fi 6, either.

What BOOX has added is a new version of Android. Unlike the BOOX Palma (available on Amazon for $279.99) that shipped with Android 11, this runs Android 13 out of the box. There are new software features including an AI assistant that can answer questions and the option to customize fonts, spacing, and margins.

Another key addition is a fingerprint sensor for keeping your device safe. Buried under the power button, users can unlock the Palma 2 by simply touching the power button with their registered finger. Like the previous generation, this also has stereo speakers and microphones, so you can listen to podcasts and also record voice memos.

The BOOX Palma 2 is priced at €299.99 and comes with a translucent case. There's also a foldable case available but it costs €7.99. The BOOX Palma 2 is available to buy now from the BOOX online store and on Amazon.
