The Onyx Boox P6 is a new, compact and portable e-reader. Android 13 is installed as the operating system, but the device has one limitation compared to its predecessor.

The Onyx Boox Palma, which we have reviewed here at Notebookcheck, is getting a successor, which unfortunately lacks a feature found in the Onyx Boox Palma. Specifically, the Onyx Boox P6 no longer has the 16 MP camera of its predecessor. The extent to which this is a limitation naturally depends on the intended use. Otherwise, no changes to the display have been made, which is still a 6.13-inch E Ink Carta 1200 display with a resolution of 824 x 1,648, but not a color display. A front light is available, which is adjustable not only in terms of brightness but also color temperature.

The 160 x 80 x 8 millimeter mobile device weighs 160 grams and is thus somewhat lighter. It not only has a touchscreen, but also multifunctional controls that can be used for page turning or scrolling, or assigned other functions. Inside the device, a Snapdragon SoC with eight processing cores is installed, flanked by 6GB of RAM. The internal storage measures 128 GB and can be easily expanded with a microSD memory card. Android 13 is installed and the 3,950 mAh battery is charged via USB-C, which is also used for file transfer. Lastly, two speakers are on board.

Boox has not yet released any information on price or global availability, but the Oynx Boox Palma is still available via Amazon.
