iReader Smart 5 Pro: Large e-reader comes with a dedicated graphics card and promises strong performance advantages

iReader is launching a new e-reader, the Smart 5 Pro, which has a large display that measures 10.3 inches diagonally. The Carta 1200 panel has a pixel density of 300 PPI and a screen-to-body ratio of 84%. An unusual aspect is that iReader installs a dedicated graphics card alongside an octacore processor, which is likely to confer significant advantages in terms of performance. According to the manufacturer, PDFs can be rendered much faster and apps start almost twice as fast. To be clear, we have no idea what kind of a GPU is used in this product; it's safe to assume that it's not a Radeon or a GeForce graphics adapter and that its processing power as well as capabilities are very modest.

According to the specs, various AI functions are available. For example, conversations or memos can be recorded via the microphone, which are then output as text. 128 GB of internal storage is installed and an operating system called SmartOS 2.2 is used. 

The price for the standard version of the new e-reader is said to be around $400. Whether and when the device will get a global launch remains unclear. But official availability is not absolutely necessary to obtain the device, as other e-readers from the manufacturer are also available as imports. These are sold via specialized stores such as Good E Reader, which also offers warranty services.
