PocketBook is launching a new e-reader onto the market, the PocketBook Verse Pro Color, which comes with an E Ink Kaleido 3 screen. This is a color screen that can display 4,096 colors and is designed for the display of comics, for example. As usual, the resolution differs between the black & white and the color display. In the absence of colors, the resolution is 1,072 x 1,448. With colors, this is 563 x 724 and thus significantly lower.
Smart lighting is available, which allows the lighting to be adjusted manually, although there is an option for automatic adjustment (depending on the time of day), so users can read without glare in the dark and in bed, for example. Measuring 10.8 x 15.6 cm and 0.76 cm thick, the device weighs 182 grams and should be easy to use in the bathtub or on the beach, since IPX8 certification is on board. This means that the e-reader is dust and water resistant.
Books can not only be read, but also listened to. Bluetooth 5.4 is supported for connecting headphones, and six audio formats are supported. The PocketBook Verse Pro Color also comes with a text-to-speech function, which allows any text file to be converted into an audio book. This function can be activated with just two clicks and offers a choice of male and female voices. 26 languages are supported.
The integrated memory has a capacity of 16 GB. 25 file formats can be displayed, including AZW and AZW3, but only if they are not copy-protected. The quad-core processor promises fast responsivity, while the dual-band WiFi ensures fast data exchange.
The PocketBook Verse Pro Color will also be available directly from the manufacturer and in certain bookstores from mid-July at a price of EUR 169. Information on a release in other markets outside Europe is still pending.
