A few weeks ago, we reported on the release of the full spec sheet for the Onyx Boox Note Max, a 13.3-inch ePaper tablet with an E Ink Carta 1300 monochrome glass display. The tablet is now available worldwide for a price of $649.99, with shipping taking place from the US or Hong Kong. Buyers from the UK or the EU can purchase the device via the Boox Euro Shop, where it is listed for €699.99. Accordingly, the shipping warehouses are located in both the UK and the EU.
The Onyx Boox Note Max is an ultra-thin tablet with an E Ink screen (or an e-reader with Android, however you look at it). Android 13 is the operating system installed, which allows the installation of additional apps from the Google Play Store, enabling users to adapt a range of functions to their own needs. The BOOX Note Max supports a wide range of file formats ranging from PDF, CBR, CBZ, PPT, EPUB, MOBI, DOC to HTML. Audio files such as WAV and MP3 are also supported in addition to image formats such as PNG, JPG, BMP, and TIFF.
The tablet is designed primarily for long periods of reading and note taking, but can also be used for sketching. The touchscreen and stylus-supported display differentiates between 4,096 levels of pressure, ensuring a paper-like writing experience. The E Ink Carta 1300 display has a resolution of 3,200 x 2,400 and a pixel density of 300 PPI, but does not support colors and also lacks a front light.
A 2.8 GHz octa-core processor is installed alongside 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. However, a microSD slot for storage expansion is lacking. As for dimensions, the tablet is 4.6 millimeters thick and relatively light at 615 grams, and also comes with a microphone and two speakers. In terms of connectivity, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, and OTG are supported. The USB-C port is not only used to charge the 3,700 mAh battery, but also doubles as an audio output.
A stylus is included in the scope of delivery, but potential buyers should note that the keyboard case, which is connected via pogo pins, is sold separately. A charger is also not included.
