With Monster Hunter Wilds just around the corner, it may be time for newcomers to the ARPG series to get immersed in the expansive world of Monster Hunter. A new pick-and-mix bundle deal at Fanatical may offer just the right opportunity to do exactly that.
In the "Build Your Own Bundle" deal from Fanatical, you can get two Monster Hunter games (or DLCs) for just $9.99, four of the same for $17.99, or eight of the series' games or DLCs for $24.99. These are games that generally retail for $29.99, making any of the aforementioned a screaming deal, especially since the game keys activate on Steam. While it may be tempting to go for the eight-game bundle, the last two games (Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter World) and their expansions (Iceborne for World and Sunbreak for Rise) have the most widespread appeal and the most modern gameplay. Before that, the Monster Hunter series held little appeal outside of Japan and a small Western niche, thanks to overwhelmingly challenging gameplay.
The next installment in the Monster Hunter game series, Monster Hunter Wilds, is set to launch on February 28, 2025, and it has already garnered massive fanfare during its earlier open beta tests, with over 450,000 players taking part. While playing former Monster Hunter games is certainly not necessary to play the upcoming sequel, doing so will provide a nice entry into the game series' core mechanics, since Wilds will build on many of the same mechanics and core gameplay elements from previous games.
The core premise of the Monster Hunter franchise is quite simple: You hunt monsters. Players embark from hubs or central areas with missions to hunt down specific monsters, and, providing they are successful, they can earn rewards and resources from those monsters in order to craft new weapons, armour, and more. There is a story to follow, but that largely plays second fiddle to the core gameplay loop and loot grind mechanics. Combat is one such highlight, and Monster Hunter is known for its weapon diversity, fast-paced, highly mobile, hack-and-slash combat.
