AMD is expected to launch its Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU at CES 2025, representing yet another naming switch-up as it introduces its RDNA 4 architecture alongside the new GPUs. Just days ahead of the expected announcement, PowerColor has posted a hint at what its next-generation flagship AMD GPU design will look like, and it's quite a change from what we have seen before.
In a series of two (so far) teasers, PowerColor has shown off both the GPU cooler shroud and what looks to be part of a flow-through window in the backplate of what is assumed to be its version of the RX 9070 XT GPU. In the teaser showing off the shroud design, you can see what looks like a gem-inspired end cap with some RGB accents peeking through what appears to be a metal fan shroud containing a triple-fan cooling setup.
The other image PowerColor shared is somewhat less visually interesting, but it looks like it shows a flow-through cooler design, similar to what Nvidia has done with its Founders Edition coolers for a while now. It's entirely possible, however, that this is simply an accent piece on the backplate, since PowerColor isn't known to use flow-through coolers on its Red Devil cards, and this design seems like an iteration of the current Red Devil RX 7900 XTX Limited Edition that PowerColor already has for sale.
The heat sink fin arrangement also suggests that a flow-through cooler is unlikely, since those usually use fins that run horizontally instead of vertically, to accommodate better air flow through the fins. Regardless, we won't have to wait too long to see what PowerColor and AMD have in-store, since the launch is expected for CES 2025.
