Few developers have held fans' attention for so long without releasing new content quite like Rockstar Games. It’s been over a decade since GTA 5 launched and three years have passed since GTA 6 was announced in February 2022, yet fans have only been given a single trailer.
Whenever Rockstar teases "the next trailer is coming soon," fan excitement reignites. This was evident last December when many, based on analysis of the first trailer, predicted the second trailer would drop on December 27. When it didn’t, the disappointment was palpable.
Concerns are growing within the community that Rockstar may miss the fall 2025 release window for GTA 6, with a delay to 2026 seeming increasingly likely. Gaming insider Jason Schreier recently weighed in on the issue. In a Bloomberg report outlining his 2025 gaming industry predictions, Schreier shared his thoughts on the situation, stating:
[...]But companies say a lot of things. The next Grand Theft Auto is a huge and ambitious game, the pressure to make it great is inordinate and developer Rockstar Games has vowed to avoid forcing excessive overtime during the final months of development. I expect that it will slip to 2026.
Online platforms like Reddit are buzzing with heated discussions about a possible delay for GTA 6. Reports of missed internal deadlines have led many fans to doubt the likelihood of a fall 2025 release, with some losing hope entirely. However, there are also optimistic voices, confident that Rockstar Games will stick to the schedule. They point out that the fall 2025 release window has been prominently displayed on the official GTA 6 website since May 2024.
Incidentally: Jason Schreier also touched on Ubisoft in his 2025 analysis, emphasizing that the company is at a critical juncture. According to the renowned journalist, much of Ubisoft's future hinges on the performance of Assassin's Creed Shadows.
