The latest edition of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is almost upon us, having been scheduled between January 7 and January 10 for its 2025 iteration. In recent years, companies have often waited until CES before publicly revealing their wares. However, Asus started teasing the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM in early December.
Now, the company has fully detailed the PG27UCDM, which features the same panel as the MSI MPG 272URX QD-OLED and Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 G81SF that also arrived today. As expected, the PG27UCDM effectively lines up as a smaller alternative to last year's ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM (curr. $1,199 on Amazon). With that being said, the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM does so with a Gen 4 QD-OLED panel that is said to offer improved text legibility thanks to its 166 PPI.
Moreover, Asus claims that the new monitor suffers from 20% less flicker than Gen 3 QD-OLED panels. Peak SDR brightness remains stuck at 250 nits. Likewise, the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM delivers 0.03 ms GtG response times with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-SYNC to mitigate image tearing. Conversely, the new monitor adds a DisplayPort 2.1a port with an 80 Gbps peak bandwidth (UHBR20).
As a result, the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM should be capable of outputting at 4K and 240 Hz without using Display Stream Compression (DSC), but only when paired with a compatible graphics card. Incidentally, neither AMD or Nvidia have released a consumer graphics card that supports DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20. Regardless, the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM also finds itself with HDMI 2.1, USB Type-A and USB Type-C ports, the latter of which can recharge a connected device at up to 90 W.
Please note that Asus has not confirmed pricing or availability yet. Unfortunately, past releases suggest that the company will not do so during CES 2025, either. Nonetheless, early independent reviews can be found below.
