There have been a few suggestions of late that Samsung Display could be working on new QD-OLED panels. Now, it seems that LG Display, Samsung Display's main rival when it comes to monitor panel production, has new panels in production too. Officially, neither LG Display nor its partners have revealed anything yet.
With that being said, Asus has started teasing what appears to be a smaller alternative to the ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM (curr. $1,299 on Amazon) that debuted in August 2023. For reference, the ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM is one of a few 32-inch gaming monitors that utilises Samsung Display's latest 4K and 240 Hz QD-OLED panel. Incidentally, Asus also offers the ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDP with LG Display's similar WOLED panel, which can drop to 1080p and 480 Hz when needed.
As the short video below shows, Asus regards the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM as its 'newest monitor'. Please note that while the company has since deleted its Instagram post and accompanying video, TFTCentral preserved the latter before Asus had a chance to do so. Moreover, the Instagram post made it clear that Asus intends to officially introduce the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM during CES 2025, which runs between January 7 and January 10.
Ultimately, the video reveals next to nothing about the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM, although it appears that this monitor is being shown rather than the larger ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM. At any rate, the 'U' in PG27UCDM would indicate that it is a UHD or 4K panel. Unfortunately, there is no hint of whether an LG Display or Samsung Display panel is being used. However, given that Samsung Display is rumoured to be creating a new 27-inch and 1440p panel this year with a 500 Hz refresh rate, we suspect that the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM could be using a next-generation LG Display panel instead.
