Dell has joined Asus, MSI and Samsung in announcing a 27-inch gaming monitor based around Samsung Display's new 4K and 240 Hz QD-OLED panel. Specifically, Dell has created the Alienware AW2725Q, which succeeds the Alienware AW2725DF (curr. $899.99 on Amazon) that it exhibited at CES 2024. With that being said, there is no replacement for the Alienware AW3225QF just yet.
At any rate, the Alienware AW2725Q utilises Samsung Display's new Gen 4 QD-OLED panel to achieve a 166 PPI pixel density and 99% DCI-P3 colour space coverage. Unfortunately, peak brightness remains stuck at 250 nits (SDR) or 1,000 nits when viewing HDR content (APL 3%). As such, the Alienware AW2725Q is VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certified, which Dell complements with Dolby Vision HDR, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-SYNC certifications.
Meanwhile, Dell has included a 110 mm height adjustable stand that can also be pivoted (-90°/+90°), swivelled (-20°/+20°) and tilted (-5°/+21°) as needed. Furthermore, the Alienware AW2725Q features two HDMI 2.1 ports and a five-port USB hub. Sadly, the monitor makes do with a USB Type-C port that peaks at 15 W and 5 Gbps, unlike some of its peers. Likewise, its single DisplayPort 1.4 connection means that it must use Display Stream Compression (DSC) to hit 4K and 240 Hz simultaneously.
The Alienware AW2725Q will be available first in China on January 22. However, Dell has confirmed that the monitor will reach North America in March for CA$1,229.99 and $899.99 in Canada and the US, respectively. Moreover, Dell will also begin selling the Alienware AW2725Q in the Asia-Pacific region in March. By contrast, countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) will not receive the monitor until April at the earliest.
