Bendable gaming monitors have returned, albeit not from Corsair this time around. To recap, Corsair released the Xeneon Flex 45WQHD240 in late 2022 with a 1440p and 240 Hz WOLED panel sourced from LG Display. While a newer panel type underpins UltraGear OLED 45GS95QE (curr. $996.99 on Amazon), this panel never made it into a bendable gaming monitor.
Now though, LG Electronics has unveiled the UltraGear OLED 45GX990A ahead of its full debut next week at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. According to LG, the new UltraGear OLED 45GX990A can 'smoothly transition from completely flat to a 900R curvature within seconds', which implies the inclusion of a motorised method of bending the monitor back and forth.
On top of that, the UltraGear OLED 45GX990A outputs at 5,120 x 2,160 with a 125 PPI pixel density. Moreover, LG has included an RGWB subpixel layout this time around for improved readability, as well as an Anti-Glare & Low Reflection (AGLR) coating to minimise glare and reflections. Meanwhile, a variable refresh rate (VRR) is on hand to ensure optical in-game visuals, as are AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-SYNC to mitigate image tearing at 0.03 ms GtG response times.
Unfortunately, LG has not revealed the monitor's refresh rate yet. However, there are suggestions that the UltraGear OLED 45GX990A could pair its 5K2K resolution with a 165 Hz refresh rate for a ~60.18 Gbps bandwidth. Thus, the monitor's DisplayPort 2.1 port would need to meet the UHBR20 standard to avoid using Display Stream Compression (DSC) to hit 5K2K and 165 Hz simultaneously. Presumably, LG will unveil full details during next year's CES.
