Rumors suggest that there will be major improvements for OLED TV panels from LG Display in 2025. Details of the 2025 LG OLED G5 smart TV leaked earlier this year. For example, we know it will have a 4K resolution and 165Hz refresh rate.
It is thought that the G5 will use a new OLED solution from LG Display. At the Display 360 Summit in October, reliable leaker Ross Young is reported to have said that the company has been working on 4-stack WOLED technology. When compared to the current 3-stack version, the extra layer is said to boost brightness. Young suggested that we could see an LG TV with a peak brightness of up to 3,700 nits in 2025. Plus, it could be that this development allows for the removal of the Micro Lens Array (MLA), a more costly element of the older TVs.
On top of this, the 4-stack solution is expected to be more energy efficient. Recently revealed power consumption measurements for the LG G5, spotted in a certification from Hong Kong, appear to confirm this. The 65-inch 2025 G5 has an annual energy consumption estimate of 164 kWh. By comparison, the 65-inch 2024 G4 (curr. $2,799.99 at Best Buy) is said to consume 209 kWh. However, LG has yet to officially announce which of its 2025 TVs will use its new technology. More details are expected to be revealed when CES begins on January 7th, if not before.
