After an unusually generous discount, the LG B5 threatens the best budget TVs. The 48-inch display provides the high contrast ratio and accurate colors of the most expensive alternatives. At a $750 discount, the LG OLED TV is also a practical option for small spaces and some gaming desks.

While OLED TVs have become more accessible, they can still demand a sizable investment. The 48-inch LG B5 is firmly in the budget category, without sacrificing any of the technology's advantages. With its compact form factor, the display can also fit into the most cramped setups. In a Best Buy sale, the B5 has hit a new low price of $550, a $750 discount off its MSRP.

The OLED48B5PUA model is a Best Buy exclusive that tempts buyers without the space for large flat screens. Some PC owners with large enough desktops even use the LG OLED TV as an everyday display. Still, its sound system may outperform most gaming monitors, but buyers will want to consider speakers or a soundbar.

As an appealing gaming TV for console or PC users, the B5 ships with four HDMI 2.1 ports. Thanks to a 120Hz maximum refresh rate, it’s an excellent alternative to a monitor for the PS5 or Xbox Series X. The LG B5 also supports Nvidia G-Sync and VRR, which addresses potential screen tearing.

The Best Buy deal makes the LG OLED a legitimate budget TV, but it produces deep blacks as expected. That benefits horror movies and games, where the slightest details remain visible. Unfortunately, Rtings measured less than top-end brightness with the B5. It may struggle to overcome glare when contending with large windows.

WebOS 25 allows the discounted display to save more space in smaller rooms. Without a standalone media player, the variety of compatible smart apps is generous. AI features not only help upscale lower-resolution selections, but also learn a viewer’s habits before making suggestions.

Most LG B4 upgrades are in another price bracket

If buyers have sufficient resources, they may consider upgrading to the LG C5. The more expensive OLED TV is noticeably brighter and gives the option of a higher 144Hz refresh rate. Even so, the 48-inch TV is currently priced at $949.99 at retailers like Amazon and Best Buy.

At $549.99, the LG OLED TV on sale at Best Buy has few competitors in its price range. Some physical locations may only have a small quantity of the B5 available.
