At CES 2024, LG unveiled the Signature OLED T, a transparent smart TV with a massive 77-inch screen. If you have been looking forward to getting your hands on it, LG now has it available for purchase in the United States for a whopping $59,999!
The LG Signature OLED T is unique in the sense that it can switch between transparent and opaque modes thanks to a retractable black shade. When the shade is retracted, the TV allows you to see what is behind it. This can be useful when using the TV in screensaver mode where it displays nature and art. LG has made special content called T Objet
that takes advantage of the transparent mode.
The transparent mode also comes in handy when using the TV as an audio player and makes it easy for the TV to blend into your space when not in use. When you want to watch a movie or TV show, simply draw up the shade with the press of a button.
Like LG's other high-end TVs, the LG Signature OLED T has a Zero Connect Box which is where you connect your media players, streaming devices, and game consoles into. The box then wirelessly transmits it to the TV at up to 4K 120Hz and from a distance of up to 30 feet. This setup eliminates having to run wires through the back of the TV which can take away from the TV's overall aesthetics.
On the technical side, the Signature OLED T has a 4K UHD resolution (3840 × 2160) resolution with a 120Hz native refresh rate. It also has Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG while its α11 AI Processor 4K handles Ai upscaling. Gamers should be pleased to know it has support for variable refresh rate (VRR), AMD FreeSync, Nvidia G-Sync, and an Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). For sound, the TV has a 4.2 channel system and support for Dolby Audio and DTS:X.
The LG Signature OLED T is available to pre-order on LG.com and also on Best Buy. LG is also selling optional shelves that are customizable. Considering the cost of the TV, it is surprising LG is charging extra for the shelves. On the other hand, LG may think anyone who is willing to pay $60,000 for a TV should not have any problem paying a little extra for a shelf.
