LG Signature OLED T: Transparent Smart TV gets new features, should finally be on the market in 2024
LG demonstrated the Signature OLED T at CES - again, as the first version of the TV was already on display at CES 2023. This year, however, the design has been fundamentally revised. LG is now installing a motorized, black film behind the 77-inch OLED panel, which can be raised at the touch of a button to transform the TV into a conventional OLED Smart TV.
The new design also changes the frame, as the transparent panel now serves as the front glass cover of a small shelf, allowing objects to be placed behind the panel. This helps the Smart TV to create additional depth, as the video embedded below from The Verge clearly shows. Popular effects, such as a digital fireplace, should appear much more realistic than on conventional televisions.
LG includes several such effects, allowing the Smart TV to be transformed into an aquarium or an oversized weather app, among other things. While LG has not yet given any details on the price, the Signature OLED T is likely to be one of the most expensive Smart TVs on the market. However, buyers will have to do without LG's best OLED technology, as the OLED T does not have an MLA panel like the OLED G3 and therefore does not achieve the same peak brightness.
That said, the OLED T supports some of LG's most advanced features, including the Zero Connect Box, which can wirelessly stream content from devices such as a PlayStation 5 (approximately 455 euros on Amazon) to the Smart TV in 4K and 120 Hz. The LG Signature OLED T Smart TV is scheduled to be delivered in 2024, but LG has not yet decided on an exact launch date.
