The launch of the new Samsung Galaxy S25 is scheduled for January 22, 2025. Some features of the new flagship have already been revealed. One of these features is the car accident detection sensor, which may save lives in emergencies.

News surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S25 is not slowing down these days. We recently reported that Samsung is installing the new generation of Gorilla Glass Armor for its new flagship. As Android Authority has now discovered, the new S25 has a sensor on board that was previously only found on Google Pixel devices (such as the Google Pixel 4a and Pixel Watch).

Car accident detection can save lives

Momentary lapses in attention are a common cause of car accidents. If just a fender bender, then the damage done is most often to your bank account. In other cases, the consequences can be deadly. In such cases, certain Google Pixel devices can automatically trigger an emergency call.

Samsung users could well also have access to this function in the future, according to a leak viewed by Android Authority. This claims that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will have a Car Crash Detect Wakeup Sensor, which is likely to be similar to the feature found on Google Pixel devices. The "Car Crash Detect Wakeup Sensor", as it is supposedly called, is said to collect data about location, speed and background noise, building a profile of the current situation. An abrupt drop in speed detected by the sensor can trigger an emergency call, depending on the settings.

Samsung has been working on a car crash detection sensor for some time

The South Korean company has been working on the adoption of such a sensor for some time. Both the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 have already have such sensors, albeit without the option of automatic emergency calls.

The company presumably wanted to test the reliability first and simply left parts of the code in the system. Since the car accident detection sensor is purely virtual, a simple implementation via software update is conceivable for the Galaxy Z Fold 5, the Galaxy S24 Ultra and the upcoming S25 generation.
