As is so often the case with user reports about bugs, a certain degree of caution is required when analyzing the current problem with the Samsung S22 update to One UI 6.1 - at least for the time being. It remains unclear just how widespread the problem described by users actually is, and it is also unclear whether Samsung will request users to pay in all cases, but it can be strongly assumed that users who are confronted with serious issues or with what they consider to be inadequate support are likely to speak up online. An official announcement from Samsung is still pending.
Users on Samsung's support forum, among others, describe how their S22 smartphones have been subject to massive problems following the update to One UI 6.1, which was rolled out in September. Specifically, the display is said to be jerky in some cases, but some other affected smartphones are said to be simply no longer usable. According to user reports, the models are virtually trapped in a boot loop. At least one user claims to have fixed the problem him-/herself, but this seems to be an exception.
The reports also detail the extent to which Samsung is dealing with the issue. According to reports from users with the same problem, Samsung states that the mainboard is defective and that corresponding repairs must be paid for by the owner since the S22 is no longer under warranty. There is talk of very high repair costs of the equivalent of around $480 in India and over $600 in the UK. Further reports from Germany indicate that Samsung is also less than accommodating there.
