Many of the Galaxy AI features and services launched with the Galaxy S24 will soon be rolled out to the Galaxy flagships of 2023 thanks to the One UI 6.1 update. Also included is the Galaxy S23 FE, which is actually based on a Galaxy S22 chipset. According to Samsung MX CEO TM Roh, there is a chance that older Galaxy phones such as the Galaxy S22 series will also benefit from some Galaxy Ai features in the future.

The end of March is fast approaching and with it, the date for the distribution of the One UI 6.1 update, which is officially confirmed to arrive at the end of the month for Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold5, Galaxy Z Flip5, the Galaxy Tab S9-series and Galaxy S23 FE. With this, some of the new Galaxy AI features will also be retrofitted, which were first introduced at the beginning of the year for the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra (available on Amazon), such as Circle to Search, Browsing and Note assistants as well as Generative AI-supported video and photo editing tools.

It was surprising to see the Galaxy S23 FE - the phone that actually uses the same technology as the European Galaxy S22 series (Exynos 2200) - in the list of supported devices. So if Galaxy AI functions work with it, it should technically be no problem to provide Galaxy S22 users with the Galaxy AI update. This is exactly what Samsung Mobile Experience CEO Tae-moon Roh hinted at during the last meeting with investors. As you can see from the statement below, this is currently being tested internally at Samsung, but Galaxy AI features for Galaxy S22 and co. have not yet been confirmed.

Galaxy AI is aiming for Hybrid AI that combines not only cloud-based AI but also on-device AI technology that is greatly affected by hardware performance. To do on-device AI that takes these hardware limitations into account, a lot of efforts are needed. Resources and efforts are being invested. We are gradually preparing plans to support a fully-fledged Galaxy AI experience. The S23 and the Fold and Flip products released last year will be upgraded with AI, and we are conducting a lot of review on the previous models.
