Motorola announces Android 17 software support, Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset and release date for new Edge 50 Pro smartphone
There have been plenty of rumours about Motorola releasing three new smartphones of late. Officially, the company has outlined the Edge 50 Pro and Moto X50 Ultra, which will debut first in India and China, respectively. Based on recent Motorola releases like the Edge 40 Pro, it seemed that the Edge 50 Pro and Moto X50 Ultra would be variants of the same device. For context, the company has confirmed previously that the latter would be one of the first devices to feature the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, a flagship chipset that Qualcomm presented earlier this week and that is already available through the Xiaomi CIVI 4 Pro.
Additionally, there has been evidence of Motorola preparing Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and Snapdragon 6 Gen 1-powered handsets. Surprisingly, Motorola has revealed that the former will actually power the Edge 50 Pro, which tallies with a recent Geekbench leak. Thus, the Edge 50 Pro will directly compete with the Nord CE 4 that OnePlus will release on April 1.
By contrast, Motorola has now confirmed the Edge 50 Pro will arrive on April 3, matching earlier expectations. Moreover, the company will complement the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 with 50 W wireless charging, 125 W wired charging and a 6.7-inch pOLED display resolving at 1.5K and 144 Hz. On top of that, the Edge 50 Pro will receive three Android OS upgrades until Android 17, which is one OS update longer than its predecessor. Unfortunately, three OS updates would still see Motorola falling a way behind its peers like Google and Samsung.
