Contrary to previous rumours, the MIX Fold 4 is no longer expected to be available globally. Instead, GSMChina reports that Xiaomi will confine the device to a China-only release, just like all MIX devices from the MIX 4 onwards. To recap, the website claimed towards the end of October 2023 that Xiaomi was developing the MIX Fold 4 as 2405CPX3D with C and G model number suffixes for Chinese and global variants, respectively.
Now, GSMChina asserts that these model numbers actually relate the rumoured MIX Flip. Currently the website has not provided any concrete evidence linking 2405CPX3DC and 2405CPX3DG to the marketing name 'MIX Flip'. However, other leakers like Digital Chat Station have discussed at length that Xiaomi has developed its clamshell foldable as a direct rival to Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip5 (curr. $799.99 on Amazon).
GSMChina adds that the MIX Flip carries the codenames 'ruyi' and 'N8', with '8' a signifier for a MIX series handset. Moreover, Xiaomi is said to have equipped MIX Flip prototypes with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipsets, a variant of which is also expected to be found later this year in the Galaxy Z Flip6. Potentially, Samsung's next clamshell foldable could be available with an Exynos 2400 in some markets though, details of which we have covered separately. As for the MIX Flip, its '2405' model number root implies that it will debut as early as May 2024, although likely first in China before reaching other markets a few months later.
