Android 17 beta 1 delayed indefinitely

Google has been internally testing Android 17 beta 1 which is said to bring noticeable visual refinements. Yesterday, February 10, Google confirmed that Android 17 beta 1 was on its way, but now, it looks like the timeline has changed. The company has not shared an exact release date for the OS so it is unclear when eligible users will be able to start testing, or why exactly the delay happened.
As per the post on the official r/android_beta subreddit, the team shared that Android 17 beta 1 was around the corner. While the post did not include an exact time, it was expected to arrive around 1pm EST today, February 11, but Google seems to have hit a snag. Android Authority reports that a spokesperson informed them about the change in release timeline, saying it will “actually be coming soon, not today.”
Even with the initial announcement, there were some skeptics questioning whether Android 17 beta 1 will arrive today or if it’s too soon after Android 16 QPR3. One commenter pointed out that Google likes to have some “breathing room” of about a week between cycles. They added that the more realistic date would be February 18, if not even later on February 23, since the company prefers Mondays or Wednesdays for major updates.
Those with eligible Pixel phones will have to wait a bit longer for the latest Android OS, but since Google has not shared a new timeline, it’s hard to say how long of a wait it will be.
