Earlier this month, Xiaomi released the Redmi K60 Ultra, which is rumoured to land in a few days globally as the Xiaomi 13T Pro. While the company confirmed all essential details about its latest Redmi K60 series handset, it remained quiet about the device's software coverage. Typically, Xiaomi offers three major Android updates for its devices, Xiaomi 12T series included.
However, it turns out that Xiaomi has guaranteed four major Android updates for the Redmi K60 Ultra, as well as a fifth year of security updates. Thus, the Redmi K60 Ultra should receive security patch updates until August 2028, which is the same commitment that Xiaomi makes towards its flagship smartphones. Conversely, the company has only promised to deliver three major Android OS updates to the Xiaomi 13 series up to Android 16. By contrast, the Redmi K60 Ultra will continue receiving major Android OS updates until at least 2026, when Google finalises Android 17.
Unfortunately, it remains to be seen whether Xiaomi will retrospectively apply the same software coverage to its recent flagships, MIX Fold 3 included. Likewise, there is no guarantee that Xiaomi will provide the same software coverage for the Xiaomi 13T and Xiaomi 13T Pro. Currently, Xiaomi is expected to announce the Xiaomi 13T series on September 1. As a result, the pair will start shipping with Android 13 a few days before Google releases stable Android 14 builds. For reference, full specifications and pricing for both Xiaomi 13T models have already leaked online, which we have covered separately.
