Sony has now revealed the date of its next product announcement, confirming earlier rumours. While the company has not named the device it intends to release yet, the sole teaser video that it has offered up so far confirms that it will be a new smartphone. As far as we can tell, Sony has included three shots of the unreleased device, which we have embedded below.
Evidently, the device is smaller than the Xperia 1 V, ruling out a new Xperia PRO. Still, Sony's recognisable 21:9 aspect ratio remains, as does a side-mounted capacitive fingerprint scanner, stereo front-facing speakers and a small front-facing camera contained within its top bezel. Additionally, Sony briefly shows the device's top panel in which a 3.5 mm jack can be seen.
In short, all the design elements hinted at so far are line with expectations for the Xperia 5 V following last month's leak of a different promotional video. Curiously, Sony has elected against revealing the Xperia 5 V's camera set-up, despite focusing its entire video on the device's camera capabilities. Possibly, this could be because the Xperia 5 V will ship with one fewer rear-facing camera than its predecessor, unlike the Xperia 1 V.
Nonetheless, Sony still boasts that the Xperia 5 V offers 'actual camera quality' and has shared two camera samples to demonstrate that assertion. The Xperia 5 V will debut in a week's time on September 1. As always, Sony will livestream its launch event on YouTube, which starts at 07:00 UTC.
