Google has announced the expansion of AirDrop support via Quick Share to more Pixel smartphones. Previously exclusive to Pixel 10 smartphones, the feature will soon be making its way to older models too. Unfortunately, Google has decided to restrict the functionality to flagships only.

Google has introduced AirDrop support within Quick Share for more Pixel smartphones. To recap, the company first debuted the functionality in November. However, this was only true for the Pixel 10 series, including the Pixel 10 Pro Fold (curr. $1,749.99 on Amazon).

Now, Google has confirmed that it is bringing the same functionality to its older Pixel 9 flagships. Specifically, the company has decided to offer AirDrop compatibility on the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. AirDrop support should work just as it does on the Pixel 10 series too, an overview of which you can find in the video below.

Also, the new feature will not be available right away. Instead, Google plans to introduce support 'over the coming weeks in phases'. Unfortunately, Google has not provided any specifics in this regard. For some reason, it has omitted the Pixel 9a, though. Likewise, the company has not outlined whether older Tensor-backed Pixel devices will receive equivalent support anytime soon.
