The Google Pixel tablet launched in June 2023 with Android 13. Initially, Google promised only three major Android updates and feature updates until June 2026, although the Pixel tablet was supposed to receive security patches for five years. Now, Google has confirmed on its support website that the Pixel tablet will receive operating system updates for five years after all.
Anyone who owns a Google Pixel Tablet can thus expect updates up to Android 18. While this means that the Pixel Tablet cannot quite keep up with newer Pixel smartphones such as the Pixel 10, which will receive operating system updates and security patches for seven years, it should extend the Pixel tablet's useful lifespan somewhat. Google had already extended software support for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 from three to five major Android updates at the end of 2024.
The reason for this adjustment could be due to the fact that the Google Pixel Tablet 2 has been scrapped. Google has apparently withdrawn from the tablet market, as there have been no rumors about a new Pixel Tablet over the past few months. In our extensive review, the first-generation Google Pixel Tablet impressed with its long battery life, high-quality build, decent performance thanks to the Google Tensor G2 and the practical speaker dock. However, the lack of 5G was a pity, and the 60Hz display with its wide bezels was already outdated in 2023.
