Google Pixel Tablet: Evidence emerges of first-party keyboard and stylus accessories
Google has now started shipping the Pixel Tablet, over a year after its initial showcase and roughly six weeks following its full unveil at I/O 2023. At launch, Google bundles the Pixel Tablet with a charging dock, which also transforms the tablet into a glorified smart speaker. Seemingly, Google has developed other accessories that it could be holding back until it ships Android 14.
In short, there is evidence of first-party keyboard and stylus accessories, stylised as 'Keyboard for Pixel Tablet' and 'Stylus for Pixel Tablet'. First mentioned by Kamila Wojciechowska last month, developer Pratyush has since found identical strings in the Pixel Retail Demo app, via the PixelSetupWizardOverlay APK in recent factory images. As the screenshot below shows, the two Pixel Tablet accessories are categorised within products that Google already sells.
Meanwhile, Google has improved keyboard and stylus integration in Android 14, with more keyboard shortcuts and refined stylus features as of Android 14 Beta 3. The Pixel Tablet supports USI 2.0 styluses too, despite the lack of first-party or Google-approved options to date. Unfortunately, no pictures of the Keyboard or Stylus 'for Pixel Tablet' have surfaced yet, nor is there a guarantee that they will ever make it to market. Google's autumn hardware event could be an opportune moment to introduce new Pixel Tablet accessories though, where it is also expected to present the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel Watch 2.
