As expected, the EU prices are considerably higher despite the 10% discount offered. US$2,000 may seem a better deal, but we are mostly paying for the innovative design with dual OLED touchscreens. The CPU performance is underwhelming, unfortunately.

Announced back in January of this year, Lenovo’s Yoga Book 9i notebook/tablet hybrid with a novel dual-OLED design is now available for purchase on the US and EU stores. The US$2,000 starting price for the NA region is definitely more palatable than the EU one that equivalates to US$2,750. Looking at the updated specs, as Lenovo saw fit to tweak some aspects before the actual release, the prices might be a bit too spicy, even for the US side.

First off, Lenovo dropped the i5-1335U processor option and the model can only be configured with an i7-1355U. Secondly, Lenovo updated the 80 Wh battery life claims with additional results recorded with MobileMark 2018. While the battery could last for 14 h in single display mode during video playback, and around 10 h in dual-screen mode, MM18 reports that typical use cases actually lead to a 7.3 h battery life. This is still good given the processor spec, but the two 2880 x 1800 OLED touchscreens definitely put additional stress on the battery. The US$2,000 configuration also includes 16 GB of LPDDR5X-6400 RAM and 512 GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD upgradeable to 1 TB for and additional US$100.

Our own tests have revealed that the main pros for this model include the image quality and versatility of the dual OLED touchscreens, as well as the pronounced bass on the Bowers & Wilkins speakers, and the lightweight build. However, there are some notable minuses, including the uncomfortable touchpad and wireless keyboard, plus the overall disappointing CPU performance due to the i7-1355U appearing slower than the previous gen i7-1255U, and the somewhat limited serviceabily.

Lenovo’s current pricing certainly does not offer the best value, but, as OLEDs become more of a mainstream feature in the coming years, along with the improved performance promised by Intel’s Meteor Lake mobile processors and beyond, the new Yoga Book series could eventually turn into a respectable solution.
