OLED mobile PC market slated to grow by up to 34% by 2030
The latest market data indicates that the uptake of OLED for smartphones and TVs has slowed down compared to their respective heydays of the earlier 2000s. However, that might not matter so much, according to the tech industry research group Omdia, as Apple's next-gen iPad Pro is believed to spark a new trend of laptops or tablets with the potentially high-saturation, low-power, ultra-high-contrast display material.
The compound annual growth rate (or CAGR) of the OLED market is now projected to grow by 11% until 2030 - however, that figure rises to 34% when corrected for "mobile PC"-sized panels. This trajectory is, of course, slated to take off with Apple's switch to OLED for more hardware besides iPhones from 2024 onward.
Therefore, Omdia predicts that other OEMs will be compelled to start making OLED devices that are much more portable than TVs in order to compete. Accordingly, the consumer might be able to enjoy a wider range of tablets or laptops with that reputation for rich color reproduction and deep blacks as time goes on.
