The first sightings of what was previously thought of as the Redmi Pad 2 have appeared online. Actually launching as the Redmi Pad SE, the tablet will combine an 11-inch display with a Snapdragon 680 chipset and up to 6 GB of RAM.

Kimovil has shared what appear to be official images of the Redmi Pad SE, a previously unknown tablet. Discovered by Xiaomiui, the renders reveal a tablet with thick display bezels, a flat design and rounded corners. According to Xiaomiui, the Redmi Pad SE is what was previously known as the Redmi Pad 2, which has leaked several times in the last few months.

As we have previously reported, the unreleased tablet has been seen sporting the Snapdragon 680, a downgrade from the Helio G99 in the original Redmi Pad. Specifically, the Helio G99 enjoys up to a 25% performance advantage over the Snapdragon 680 in our benchmarks. Thus, it makes more sense for Xiaomi to position the Redmi Pad SE as a cheaper alternative to the Redmi Pad than as a second-generation model.

Additionally, Kimovil's leak confirms that the Redmi Pad SE has four speakers with Dolby Atmos support. Moreover, the tablet has a Xiaomi CIVI 2-inspired camera housing, albeit with a single 8 MP camera. Currently, Xiaomi is expected to announce the Redmi Pad SE later this month in China with a minimum of 4 GB and 64 GB of storage. Based on earlier leaks, the tablet will also be available with up to 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, complemented by an 11-inch, 90 Hz and 1,920 x 1,200-pixel display. Xiaomi is rumoured to have developed a global model too, although this may arrive later in the year than its Chinese counterpart.
