Rumor | iPad Pro 11 and 12.9 to be first in line for OLED upgrade in 2024

The market research group Omdia reportedly predicts that the first Apple devices to go OLED will be "11-inch and 13-inch OLED iPads", thereby possibly hinting that the devices will be of the Pro line based on those approximate screen sizes. It is interesting that both variants of this top-end slate are once again tipped to get such a potentially significant screen upgrade, as a similar switch to miniLED has been exclusive to the iPad Pro 12.9 since 2021.

Furthermore, both the iPad Pro "11 and 12.9 (2024)" are also now possibly backed to debut with specs such as Always-on Display into the bargain, as they are both believed to be enhanced with LTPO technology. The same Pro-grade iPhone-esque features might also be found in the first-gen OLED MacBook - at the expense of a more timely release to the market.

The upcoming laptop is said to be delayed for several years, and part of the reason is now believed to be that the "8th generation Samsung OLED" Apple plans to use for the upgraded laptop has yet to integrate LTPO at mass-production scale - in fact, it has apparently not even been made with the older LTPS layer yet.

Therefore, if Samsung cannot get this 8th-gen OLED with LTPO on its production lines by 2026, the inaugural OLED MacBook may not even make it to 2027 as currently projected.
