Apple apparently working on new 13.4-inch OLED MacBook Air
So far, the grapevine is that Apple will eventually transition to OLED panels for the iPad Pro and the MacBook lineup including the MacBook Air. Both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros are speculated to arrive with an OLED panel in 2024 followed by the MacBook in 2025.
Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants, who made the aforementioned prediction, is now claiming to his super followers on Twitter that Apple is also working on a new MacBook Air featuring a 13.4-inch OLED display.
When information about Apple's plans for OLED MacBooks first broke out, it was naturally expected that the current 13.6-inch MacBook Air would feature the new display tech. Apparently, there could be another variant of the MacBook Air in the works as well. The present 13.6-inch MacBook Air powered by the M2 chip is already a slight deviation in terms of screen size from the original 13.3-inch version.
Young has not indicated any timeline for the smaller 13.4-inch MacBook Air, though we can expect Apple to announce it alongside the OLED iPad Pro next year. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman had previously predicted that the upcoming MacBook Air will most likely be powered by the M3 chip. He also speculates the first touchscreen OLED MacBook to see the light of the day in 2025.
What is not clear, however, is that whether Apple would launch the purported 13.4-inch MacBook Air alongside existing 13-inch versions, which seems redundant, or make this the de facto screen size for this form factor of the MacBook Air going forward.
