Xiaomi has just relaunched the Redmi Pad 2 Pro (curr. $270 on Amazon) in China with a new model variant. At the same time, the global version of the Pad 8 Pro has surfaced in new leaks, over four months after its debut in Xiaomi's home market. To recap, Xiaomi introduced the Pad 8 Pro last September in China alongside the cheaper Pad 8 and flagship smartphones like the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.
Based on early Geekbench listings, the Pad 8 Pro will start with 8 GB of RAM globally. If its predecessor is anything to go by, then Xiaomi will complement this RAM configuration with 256 GB of storage. Moreover, the Pad 8 Pro will likely reach other markets with optional 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM variants tied to 512 GB of storage, too.
Also, performance is roughly in line with the Chinese version of the Pad 8 Pro that we reviewed towards the end of last year. As a result, single-core performance is just shy of other Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered tablets like the Oppo Pad 4 Pro and RedMagic Astra. Conversely, the Pad 8 Pro is in line with competing tablets when it comes to multi-core and GPU performance.
Xiaomi has not indicated when it will launch the Pad 8 Pro globally. The same goes for the Xiaomi 17 smartphone series. However, it looks like the Xiaomi 17 is close to receiving an international release given a recent European retailer leak.
