Over five months have passed since RedMagic released its Astra gaming tablet globally. In the intervening period, plenty of alternatives have arrived, like the Xiaomi Pad Mini or the Huawei MatePad Mini. Now, the RedMagic Astra has returned with a new version that RedMagic claims surpasses original models in a few areas.
Leveraging the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset as the OnePlus Pad 3 (curr. $678.99 on Amazon), the new Golden Saga Limited Edition is unlikely to surpass the performance existing RedMagic Astra tablets offer in most cases. Likewise, RedMagic offers its new tablet with 24 GB of RAM and an 8,200 mAh battery, both of which are unchanged from the tablet's original release. Moreover, the Golden Saga Limited Edition retains a 9.06-inch OLED display with a 2.4K resolution and a 165 Hz refresh rate.
However, RedMagic insists that the new release delivers 'superior airflow' thanks to its Golden AquaCore Cooling System. Allegedly, this provides the Golden Saga Limited Edition with gold-plated vapor chambers to minimise thermal throttling under load. Unfortunately, RedMagic has not shared any further details in this regard.
Moreover, the new release features sapphire glass across its transparent back panel. The Golden Saga Limited Edition can be ordered for £1,139, €1,299, and $1,349 with 1 TB of storage and a complimentary Astra Golden Saga Magnetic Kevlar Protective Case included. RedMagic estimates that it will begin shipping pre-orders before March 13.
