RedMagic has released its latest high-end Android tablet after an extended pre-order phase. The RedMagic Astra started life as the Gaming Tablet 3 Pro over two months ago. While the Redmi K Pad and Legion Y700 Gen 4 serve as alternatives in China, arguably only the iPad mini 7 rivals the RedMagic Astra globally (curr. $699 on Amazon).
To recap, the RedMagic Astra is one of the few tablets to utilise the Snapdragon 8 Elite, Qualcomm's flagship mobile chipset until the arrival of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 this September. Moreover, RedMagic has installed an 8,200 mAh battery that supports 80 W wired charging and a 9.06-inch OLED display with a 165 Hz refresh rate and a 2.4K native resolution.
Currently, the Astra starts at £439, €499 and $549 with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Meanwhile, RedMagic charges £559, €649 and $699 for the tablet's 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage variant. According to RedMagic's website, these memory combinations should ship within a week of being ordered in Eclipse or Starfrost colourways. By contrast the most expensive, priced at £739, €849 and $899 with 24 GB RAM and 1 TB of storage, is unlikely to begin shipping until early September. Please see RedMagic's website for more details.
