The end of support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, is fast approaching. Afterwards, Microsoft will no longer provide security or feature updates.
Support until 2032 without loss of data
According to PCWorld, support will be available until 2032 with the UpDownTool, which can be downloaded free of charge from Technixstuff. UpDownTool enables users to switch directly from Windows 11, or even earlier versions of Windows, to Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 with just a few clicks. This can be done without losing any data, programs or drivers.
Slim Windows version
According to information from Microsoft, the LTSC edition, originally designed for industrial and embedded systems, will continue to provide mainstream support until January 2027 and extended support until January 2032. IT Magazine states that the version does not include the Microsoft Store, Cortana or many background services, as it is deliberately a slim and stable version.
License
Even though installation and use of the version is straightforward, IT Magazine points out that Microsoft only issues Windows 10 LTSC licenses to organizations via volume licensing agreements. Private use or the lack of an appropriate license violates the terms and conditions and is done at your own risk.
Outlook
UpDownTool provides a way to bridge the foreseeable gap following the end of Windows 10 support, especially for tech-savvy users who prioritize stability over new features. For many users, however, the official option remains to upgrade to Windows 11 or use the Extended Security Updates program, although the latter is only a temporary solution that involves costs.
