The Hannspree Lumo is designed to combine the advantages of an e-book reader with those of a conventional Android tablet. In order to do so, the manufacturer uses a reflective LCD that does not need a backlight and is instead visible through reflected light, similar to paper or the MiP display of a Garmin Instinct 2 (from $247 on Amazon).
An optional front light allows the tablet to be used in dark rooms. However, Hannspree cuts back on the display specifications, as the 7.8-inch screen offers a resolution of only 1024 x 768 pixels and a refresh rate of 60Hz. Also disappointing is the small battery with a capacity of just 3000mAh, although a runtime of 6.5 hours with the front light set to maximum brightness is still somewhat reasonable. Either way, the touchscreen can also be operated with an optional pressure-sensitive stylus.
Thanks to the small battery, the tablet is very light and weighs just 8.82 oz. Furthermore, the tablet is powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 with two ARM Cortex-A76 performance cores with boost clock speeds of up to 2.2GHz and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. A 5MP selfie camera, an 8MP main camera and Android 14 including support for Google services round out the feature set of this mid-range tablet. It’s also worth noting that the slate utilizes an open-source version of Android 14.
