The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra proved itself well in our extensive review with its low-reflection display, which, in combination with the extremely high brightness of up to 2,572 nits, can be read without issue anywhere, even in the sun. However, this special display cover may well have problems with longevity, as several users of the smartphone are now suggesting.
Less than a year after the launch of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the anti-reflective coating is peeling off on some devices, particularly at the edge of the screen. In other cases, a freshly cleaned display sometimes leaves large marks, especially where the display has been touched most often. In the image in the X post embedded below, the issue is clearly visible, especially as a vertical stripe in the area where the display is touched for scrolling. The surface appears very susceptible to tiny scratches because the coating is softer than the glass itself.
Samsung is yet to comment on the problem, so it is unclear just how widespread it is or whether the display can be replaced under warranty. To protect the display, users are advised to clean it only with a microfiber cloth without cleaning solution. A screen protector can help, as it can be simply replaced after wearing out, but as some affected users note, such protective films are much more reflective than the display of the Galaxy S24 Ultra itself. A case of being stuck between a rock and a hard place.
