Leaker claims that the Samsung Galaxy S25 and S25+ will have a new camera at last
The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ from 2022 marked the beginning of the era of 50 MP sensors in the main camera of the two Samsung flagships. At that time, they were still based on the 1/1.57-inch ISOCELL GN5 with 1 μm pixel size, which was replaced by the similar ISOCELL GN3 the following year. The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ once again use the now somewhat outdated Samsung sensor. In 2024, the South Koreans only replaced one sensor in the entire Galaxy S24 series and that was the 5x telephoto in the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
In 2025, a major change to the cameras in the Galaxy S25 series appears to be on the cards, as already hinted at by South Korean leaker @Tech_Reve last year. His suspicions now appear to be confirmed (see post below), although at this early stage, almost 10 months before the expected launch of the Galaxy S25 generation in 2025, nothing can be said with certainty. We currently don't know which sensor will replace the ISOCELL GN3 in the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ in the future.
It is interesting to note that this is apparently a Sony sensor and not a new ISOCELL variant, although this information has not yet been confirmed either. However, there are some initial indications of this. South Korean industry newspaper ETNews recently reported that Sony had begun to outsource parts of its image sensor production to Korea, which is intended to make it easier for Samsung to install Sony sensors into its Galaxy phones.
Great news: The S25 and S25+ will no longer use the dreadful GN3 sensor; instead, they will feature Sony’s image sensor. I’m very happy! https://t.co/P6pxMEmyMl
