Samsung announces new mid-range smartphone with four Android OS updates and pre-order bonuses
Samsung has expanded the Galaxy A series with the Galaxy A35 5G, just under a year after the debut of its predecessor. For context, the Galaxy A35 5G has launched alongside the more powerful Galaxy A55 5G, launch details of which we have covered separately. As expected, Samsung has built on the Galaxy A34 5G with the Galaxy A35 5G rather than disowning last year's device.
As such, the latter has a Super AMOLED display that measures 6.6-inches across. Additionally, the display outputs at 1080p, which Samsung describes as FHD+, and provides a 120 Hz refresh rate. Unfortunately, Samsung has not confirmed any other display details yet, including whether the Galaxy A35 5G surpasses its predecessor's 1,000 nits (HBM) peak brightness. Likewise, the company does not mention the chipset that powers the handset, although this is rumoured to be the Exynos 1380 from the Galaxy A54 5G.
Moreover, this year's Galaxy A3 smartphone retains its predecessor's 13 MP front-facing, 8 MP ultra-wide-angle and 5 MP macro cameras. However, Samsung appears to have brought across the 50 MP primary camera from the Galaxy A54 5G, which has an f/1.8 aperture and is optically stabilised (OIS). According to Samsung, all this hardware sits within a 161.7 x 78 x 8.2 mm housing that weighs 209 g, in part because of the device's 5,000 mAh battery.
For reference, the Galaxy A35 5G will ship with the promise of four Android OS updates from Android 14 onwards. Furthermore, the handset is slated to receive a fifth year of Android security patch updates until early 2029. The Galaxy A35 5G will start in the Eurozone with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage for €379. Alternatively, the device will be available with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage for €449, which is just €30 shy of the cheapest Galaxy A55 5G. With that being said, Samsung is running a pre-order promotion for 256 GB versions of the Galaxy A35 5G that bundles a complimentary pair of Galaxy Buds FE earbuds, which is unavailable when purchasing the cheapest Galaxy A55 5G.
