The Samsung Galaxy S25 lineup will reportedly support the Qi2 standard, making the Galaxy S25, S25 and S25 Ultra the first Android phones to support the charging standard after the HMD Skyline. Its implementation will determine whether users is going to benefit from this.

The Qi2 standard enables the HMD Skyline (around $499 on Amazon) to charge wirelessly at up to 15 watts and connect magnetically to accessories and chargers, including those with MagSafe originally designed for the Apple iPhone lineup. Currently, no other Android phone supports this standard.

TechAltar speculates that this is not least because tech giants like Samsung and Google would rather develop their own standard than support one that ultimately is created by Apple. However, things could change with the launch of the Galaxy S25 series in January. Ice Universe, a mostly very reliable leaker, told @Jukanlosreve that Samsung’s next-gen flagships are going to support the Qi2 standard.

Even if this rumor ends up being true, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the Galaxy S25 series will support all Qi2 features, considering both the Extended Power Profile (EPP) and Magnetic Power Profile (MPP) are optional. The former allows for wireless charging at up to 15 watts, whilst the latter involves the magnets for mounting accessories. If Samsung opts to include magnets, they could be used for attaching magnetic Qi2 power banks, camera grips, wallets and chargers to the back of the phone, opening up more accessory options than ever for those who own a Galaxy S25, S25+ or S25 Ultra.
