MacBook Pro 2026 to feature OLED displays and hole-punch camera, ditching the notch
Apple plans to roll out MacBook Pro models with OLED screens and a revamped camera setup in 2026, based on a recent roadmap from research firm Omdia. These new models are expected to ditch the current notch for a hole-punch camera system and might even include the Dynamic Island feature that iPhone users are familiar with.
The new MacBook Pros will have 14.3-inch and 16.3-inch Hybrid OLED displays, which use RGB Tandem and Oxide TFT tech and have Dynamic Frame Rate support. These sizes are a bit bigger than the current 14.2-inch and 16.2-inch Mini LED screens.
Switching to OLED should bring some noticeable upgrades, like brighter displays, better contrast with deeper blacks, and improved battery efficiency for more prolonged use. These changes could also make future MacBooks thinner overall.
Before all that, though, the MacBook Pro will keep its current design, with 2025 models getting a chip upgrade to the new M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max. According to Omdia, OLED screens will be exclusive to the MacBook Pro for two years, only making their way to the MacBook Air in 2028.
The removal of the notch could give the macOS menu bar more breathing room, making the display feel more seamless. But, details about how the hole-punch camera and Dynamic Island will work in practice are still up in the air.
