Prominent analyst claims iPhone 17 'Air' will be Apple's thinnest iPhone ever
Apple's widely rumored iPhone 17 Air is sizing up to be quite an interesting product. Recent reports have suggested the upcoming iPhone variant will be the slimmest ever, while others have suggested confusing specifications for the product.
According to Mark Gurman's latest PowerOn newsletter, the iPhone 17 Air is rumored to be around 2 mm thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro. Since the iPhone 16 Pro is 8.25 mm thin, we can expect the iPhone 17 Air to be right around the ~6mm mark, making it Apple's thinnest smartphone ever, although the 2024 iPad Pro (currently $899 on Amazon) will continue being the thinnest Apple product. Gurman does not mention any other details regarding the device, apart from stating that the product will boast Apple's custom modem, which is expected to make its debut in the iPhone SE 4.
So far, reports have claimed that the iPhone 17 Air will be around 6.6 inches in size, likely slotting in between the iPhone 17 Pro and the Pro Max variants. Rumors have also claimed the product will be more expensive than even the Pro Max variant, which would make its 48 MP single-lens camera setup, also rumored, a tough pill to swallow, to say the least. Other details include an A19 SoC paired with 8 GB of memory and a 24 MP front camera.
As with all pre-release reports, take this information with a splash of doubt. The iPhone 17 launch is still around 10 months away, so a lot could change by then. For those interested in the recently launched iPhone 16, do check out our comprehensive review of the smartphone.
